The Iraq war is a hot topic these days, right or wrong, truth or lie, there are still people out there doing their job. It seems more and more soldiers are doing things to try and get out of doing their job, going so far as to hurt themselves to try and prevent them from going to Iraq. This is why my husband is my inspiration, he is an Army Reserve soldier who has spent from July 2004 until the present day on active duty serving his county. Because of safety issues I can’t give a lot of details, but I will tell you what I can.

Two weeks after our daughters 2nd birthday, Mike got the call all military spouses dread, he was being activated to go to Iraq. Not only was he going to Iraq, he was being transferred to a Unit where he didn’t know anyone. To top that off, he had less then 12 hours before he was to report. To make a long story short, he was sent to Iraq for 13 months.

Just as he was preparing to come home, his own unit was called to active duty. Since he was just coming home, he didn’t have to go with them. However, he chose to volunteer to go with his Unit as they mobilized for 12 months. Mike was home only 2 weeks when he left again! That was in October of 2005, and as I write this he is still on active duty for his 3rd straight mission.

Mike is my inspiration because more and more soldiers are trying to find ways out of doing what they signed up to do. There is no draft, they knew that if war happened, they were going to fight. People can bash me if they want, but why can’t these soldiers be more like my husband. It doesn’t matter if the soldier is doing a job in the U.S. or overseas, they are all important to the mission as a whole.

Our family has spent more time apart then we have together, we were only married for 6 months when he deployed. However, we have been together since he went to Basic Training over 9 years ago. I am proud of my husband and I am proud to be a military wife! No matter what the risk, no matter what the cost, my husband has done more then his share to serve our country. My daughter and I couldn’t be more proud of him and what he’s done for us all!

Mike is my inspiration because he could have quit and come home, but he chose to keep going and keep serving our country!
